The Uneven Bow Tie Bowl
Wood doesn’t grow in perfect circles — and this bowl doesn’t pretend it does.
The Uneven Bow Tie Bowl was shaped in response to the natural form of the timber, resulting in a subtly organic outline rather than a machine-perfect round. The flowing grain lines follow the movement of the wood, creating a sculptural piece that feels alive from every angle.
During turning, two natural cracks revealed themselves. Instead of cutting around them or discarding the timber, I reinforced the structure with hand-cut bow tie inlays — one visible within the bowl and one on the underside. These are not decorative additions; they are structural stitches that strengthen the piece while becoming part of its story.
At 27cm across with a 21.5cm inner bowl, this is a substantial centrepiece — ideal for fruit, dry goods, or simply as a sculptural object on a dining table or sideboard.
Finished in natural beeswax to enhance the warmth and depth of the grain while maintaining a soft, tactile surface.
This bowl embraces movement, asymmetry and repair.
It’s timber, respected — not forced into uniformity.
